I especially like what they’ve done with the interior.

TBH I think it looks much better than both generations of the XF.

You’re saying it looks like an XF on the outside and an XJ on the inside like it’s a bad thing.

It’s not. That’s the joke of it.

That’s a Jaguar though.

Except for that stupid touchscreen that looks like someone glued a $30 Kindle to the dash.
Unfortunately, everyone’s doing that these days, so I can’t blame Kia for that. Otherwise, I’m quite interested. Very curious about pricing, though, which I haven’t seen any info on from anyone.

Meh, that Kia looks like a store-brand Subaru.

Is there anyone in the world who actually /likes/ this? I don’t get it. What does it improve in comparison to putting it in the dash.

If it retracted down into the dashboard when you weren’t using it, I could totally respect the aesthetic, because it would serve a purpose. But it doesn’t serve any purpose at all except to look cheap and stupid.
Again, not blaming Kia in particular - EVERYONE does it these days, it seems.

I think Mercedes started it. Blame them like we blame them for the 25 year rule and the cancellation of the Chrysler ME Four-Twelve.

Ya but have you seen the interior of the new Forte?

Mercedes started with one that retracted into the dash, some went to one that was incorporated into the dash. This is actually a face lifted version of the W204 C-Class
Others got that stupid screen, this is the screen in the 2013 B180 I rented in Germany.
It seems they’ve all gone to the screen stuck to the dash.

It allows you to have a lower dash with more visibility out the front. The alternative is having a higher dash with more bulk. See the two versions of the Mazda 6 dash for illustration. I’m not saying I like the look. I don’t. But I think that is why they do it.

I’ll bite. While I hate the way it looks, it is in a better location for seeing at a glance than the traditional under-the-vents location. I’ve rented cars that have these, and I much prefer it to in the dash. From a manufacturing point of view, I think it also makes it easier to offer different sized screen on different trim levels and to upgrade the screen year-to-year without making other changes to the interior.

The best thing of all about this car is the name.

I especially love the rear

So Jaguar copied Mercedes? I have a hard time keeping track of these kinds of things.

That console looks like the tunnel out of an H1. It’s so wide it will require an intrepid team of surveyors to risk death in the jungle finding a way across for a canal.
